Good morning, this
is Topher from Washington Church of Christ, bringing you a Message Minute.
I remember well that
chilly day in November of 1996 in Smyrna, TN, but my heart was warmed by the
good will of those around me who believed in my Pardon from the highest Power
in the land. I didn't deserve it. I couldn't earn it. Some criticized it. Yet, a little over 20 years later, I can
still remember the smile of friends, the freedom I felt, and the joy welling
inside me as I accepted the most Powerfully Undeserved Pardon any leader has
ever handed down as I was baptized into Christ. (For more on "baptized
into Christ" go to Galatians 3:27 or Romans 6:3 in the Bible.)
Regardless of what
you and I think of the recipients of the Presidential Pardon, can we at least
agree that it is good for those who hold Power to at times use that Power to
give Mercy instead of Justice to those that don't deserve it? We find out that God has always been giving
Powerful Pardons as when the Old Testament Prophet Micah asks, "Who is a God like you, who
pardons sins?... You … delight to show mercy." (excerpts from Micah 7:18)
Today, God grants
you power, so strive to follow the example of our merciful Leadership by giving
a powerful pardon to some undeserving soul who has sinned against you. You'll be glad you did.
