Good morning, this is Topher from Washington Church of Christ, bringing you a positive message minute.

When you've got four kids like me, there is an ugly monster lurking in your home that needs battled every day.  We constantly draw the swords of reason, speech, and love as we oppose this vile beast.  It's name is "Jealousy".  That's right, families have used every cultural cliché available to excuse our exhaustion in our duel against this dastardly demon.  We say things like "boys will be boys", or "sibling rivalry is natural", or that "jealousy in families is only common."

I want to tell you that Jealousy is something you can and should battle in your home, and by God's good grace through His Spirit, you can prevail.

James, the little brother of Jesus, says this in God's Holy Word, "For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice." (James 3:16)  Friends, the first way to oppose jealousy in your home is to admit that it isn't good nor acceptable.  Then begin by teaching and modeling for your children the better skills of the Lord that include, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  (Galatians 5:22). Make learning these skills among your family's highest priorities.  You'll be glad you did.
