Good morning, this
is Topher from Washington Church of Christ, bringing you a positive Message
Minute.
Blueberry
Icing. While that may sound delicious to
you, it's most certainly not what you think.
I have a dear friend that owns a blueberry farm. That's right, 700 blueberry bushes that use
no chemical sprays, meaning lots of back breaking time weeding, pruning, and
inspecting for pests. He does it all
because he loves the plants God has given to his care. So when the temperatures dropped drastically
below freezing after his bushes were already blooming he did something absurd
to the novice grower like me. He sprayed
his precious blueberry bushes with water, covering everything in a thin coating
of ice.
When I first read
his effort, I thought, "Wait a minute, doesn't that cold ice kill plants, buds,
and blossoms?" In truth, the layer of
hard crystalline water can actually provide a protective insulating layer
against the colder temperatures to come, kind of like an igloo in Alaska.
Sometimes, I think
we go through trials and hard times, so that we may weather more difficult
situations to come, kind of like blueberry bushes. James says it this way, "Take joy my brothers and
sisters, when you face trials of many kinds, for you know the testing of your
faith develops perseverance, and let perseverance have its full effect, that
you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." - James 1:2-4
Today, as we realize
that the Great Grower in the Heavens could be protecting us through current
challenges, thank God for the small
trials of life. You'll be glad you did.
